Are you a bit of a whizz on the computer? Do you work well under pressure? Are you looking for a job that works around having children at school? If so, you could be just what we’re looking for!
Escape Support Group is a local charity, based in Creech St Michael, which offers support to families who are raising children who have additional needs or disabilities. We are a small team, our remit being to organise fun days out, annual trips away, and carers events. All activities are subsidised due to our continued fundraising efforts.
We are currently seeking a motivated, enthusiastic person to join our very flexible team, to provide various support in the form of administrative and fundraising assistance, accompanying trips as a Coach Leader, and providing assistance at our monthly Hub Club (currently funded by Children In Need.)
The role will include working within the office during term time, using Word, Publisher and Excel, therefore excellent IT skills are a must. Typing, poster making, spreadsheets, data inputting, maintaining records, report writing and grant applications are just some of the tasks you might be asked to undertake. You must be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. You should have a good understanding of social media, and be prepared to use Facebook and Twitter to promote the charity and what it does, and respond to messages. You will be required to offer support in co-ordinating and attending fundraising events and writing grant applications as decided within the team, as beneficial to the charity.
The trips we offer are organised within office hours, but are undertaken during the school holidays. As a coach leader you are required to meet and greet our members at each coach stop, keeping a register of attendance, and ensure that the trip runs as smoothly as possible for all involved. Occasionally incidents arise that require attention – e.g. inclement weather, illness – therefore the applicant should be able to think on their feet and use common sense as required.
We are a charity supporting families – which includes our staff and their families – so if you are a parent and have children that would need to accompany you on the trips, this is negotiable.
The Hub Club is a monthly group that runs one Saturday a month. As Hub Club Assistant you would be required to help collect play and craft equipment from our office in Creech St Michael, and take to the venue in Monkton Heathfield, where you would be required to set up for the activities arranged. These activities would have been organised by the Hub Club Co-ordinator, along with input from any other activity providers, in the weeks before each session. The club then runs for 2 hours, providing families the opportunity to drop in and spend quality time together, crafting, playing, and offering support to each other. At the end of the session the HCA would be required to pack up and return the equipment to the office. The support for these sessions would be from 2.30 and finish at 6.30.
The hours of work would average 12 a week, which include 4 a month for Hub Club. Office working hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9am and 3pm.
The rate of remuneration is £ 9.00 per hour, to be reviewed after a successful 3 month probationary period. Escape offer a 5% pension.
